The next 12 weeks Saturday ride leaders and rides are as follows. SSaturday Social Ride list Autumn 2014 (1).docx (18.08 KB)
If I have missed you off please accept my apologies, if you want to be added to any of the dates as a co-leader (to lead one of the other 2 rides - 30mile or GBITS) please let me know. If you can't do the date, please let me know that too! You can arrange to swap with another leader yourself, all I ask is that you let me know and then I can correct the list.
Thank you all you kind and lovely people, Caran

Thanks for new list Caran. Your attention to this task is much appreciated! As I missed club meeting discussion about ride structure I would just like to make sure that the club makes it clear what leaders need to take into account and refer to the points that we have previously ageed about the pre ride "checklist " and other things. Could these be added to the List posting?

It is important that all ride leaders should make sure that they cover the following before setting out on club rides. Get the attention of the group and announce the route(s) and describe any risks or danger spots. Check that riders know which route they are joining Ensure they know who's with them, numbers and names if possible Remind riders of the "rules" Be prepared to look after new joiners, Check on membership and remind non members the rule of 3! Maintain an inclusive pace and catch ups Ensure safe return of any who cannot complete ride, etc.
Ride leaders need to know this: BC advice -the club indemnity insurance covers the club officers and the club in case of 3rd party liability, for the purpose of led rides, appointed ride leaders at club meetings assume the role of club officer for that appointed ride, and in such, are covered by the club indemnity insurance. Individuals coming out with the club prior to joining to try the rides are classed as invited riders, and are also covered by the insurance. Club members are to seek their own insurance cover via BC or alternative provider, membership from BC at each of the 3 levels of bronze, silver and gold offer varying levels of cover and benefits. No junior riders 12 to 16 yrs can be participate unless they are with their parents or have arranged that another club member is nominated to act in "loco parentis" on the ride and takes responsibility for their child. A 16 to 18 yr. olds parents must have previously signed a Parental Consent form.

Thank you Steve, I think this gives us a very clear set of guidelines to follow.
I would appeal to all those leading rides to familiarise themselves with the guidance above, it is what we do already - or have intention to do - before every ride but we sometimes forget. If anyone would prefer it on a laminated prompt card (pocket size) we could get some done.
Thank you to all members who have their arms twisted into leading rides, without your continued support the rides would not be as well organised and enjoyable as they are. Keep up the good work everyone!
Thanks again,
Caran x

Saturday 23rd August This week all three rides head out of Skipton to Carleton. Please check out the routes on the maps below. As always, everyone is welcome to join us. A roadworthy bike and helmet are essential, a spare tube would be useful and some cafe money. There is always a cafe stop; the GBITS ride have theirs at the end of the ride whereas the Social rides usually stop about halfway. This week the 50 mile ride will be stopping in Settle for lunch. We look forward to seeing you at Dave Ferguson's Bike Shop @ 9.30am.

Monday night and Wednesday are very much still on. If you haven't ridden in a while and you are able to ride on Saturday mornings, there's our 'Get Back In The Saddle' ride. It is a 20 mile ride at a steady pace with a cafe stop at the end. Or there are 30 and 50 mile rides, these are faster paced with lots of regrouping and a cafe stop mid way. Don't think I am being over cautious but the 20 miler would probably be a great way to get back into cycling. Once you've got the hang of your new bike, and increased your speed etc, take on the 30 & 50 milers. Monday & Wednesday average a pretty decent pace but we usually have 2 groups, one faster than the other. Hope that this helps you make a decision. Everyone is welcome and we love to have new riders with us, so come along! :-)

Would just like to say a massive thank you to Chris, Martin and Harry for making me feel so welcome on Saturday morning. Despite slowing the pace down I received lots of encouragement from the group. I just hope my legs recover in time for this Saturday. .!

Hi Gizelle, the Saturday GBITS ride is the 20 mile ride, it's down as a Get Back in the Saddle ride. It didn't happen last week because of the weather but that was a first. There's one this Saturday.
Monday night isn't a GBITS ride, it is faster, the ride usually takes between 1hr 30min and 2hr depending on the riders that turn up. There have been two groups going out over the Summer, this has been great as it has meant a faster group and a slightly slower group.
As the nights are drawing in the numbers may drop but we will still be riding. What will happen though is the ride will become quicker as there'll be less stops and regroups as it gets too cold to stand about chatting.
There isn't an official GBITS ride any other day but Saturday. However, if you are up for 20-24 miles at a reasonable pace on Monday nights just come along whenever you can, Wednesday might be a bit much with the 'Sport' riders. Also, if you want to ride with someone from the club just put an announcement on the Facebook page, there are always people looking for someone to ride with. Hope that this helps?

Saturday Social Special! September 20th 2014
This week we have a special route planned by Steve Wilkinson - Coverdale. The route will be longer than usual (approx.68 miles) and will take in one of the TDF climbs Cote de Cray (Kidstones) and over Coverdale back towards Kettlewell.
Coverdale Special
There will be a lunch break on the way and possibly another coffee stop in Kettlewell or Grassington on the way home, depending on how thirsty everyone is!
The route is stunning and it's a great opportunity to enjoy it before the Autumn chill sets in. I have it on good authority that we are in for a heatwave this coming week so fingers crossed!
We would like to have an idea of interested riders as we are trying to book a cafe for lunch, if you will be coming please could you let us know by Thursday and we can inform the cafe of numbers.
Thank you, Caran
The 30 & 20 mile rides are being rolled into one ride this week, as a special challenge to all those 20 mile riders to do a little extra but with a cafe stop half way round. The emphasis will be on enjoying the ride. If you want to push your pace a little that's great, if you don't that's ok too. The route is a well known route, I've included Bog Lane to avoid the Grassington Rd roundabout but you can go that way if you're happy to! Then straight up Grassington Road through Threshfield and passing the magnificent Kilnsey Crag. Onwards to Kettlewell and to Zarinas for refreshments. Afterwards the route takes the back roads back through Conistone and Grassington, a lovely road, and then down to Linton. Returning back along Grassington Road and into town. Saturday Special to Zarinas (20/30combined) If you've done a few 20 milers maybe it's time to do 10 more? You'll hardly notice you've done it, especially as there's a cafe stop! Please let me know which ride you'd like to join. Many thanks, Caran.
PS there will be no 20 mile (GBITS) ride this week.

There will be a shorter ride, I haven't published the route yet as we want to establish how many riders are coming on the longer special this week. We need to book the cafe etc. How many miles are you comfortable with? The shorter route this week will probably be heading to Kettlewell with a cafe stop at Zarina's. Would you be interested in that? Caran
