How about a short break in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland?
Our holiday home is situated in Gatehouse of Fleet within reach of FOUR of the 7-Stanes mountain biking centres; Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie, Mabie and Glentrool. (www.7stanesmountainbiking.com ) For road cycling there are plenty of quiet gently undulating lanes if you take the coastal routes, or stiffer climbs if you head inland into the hills. For the kids, the village is 2 miles from quiet sandy beaches with safe water and surrounded by local woods with easy biking or walking trails. Plus there are many other other tourist spots: activity centre, water sports centre, farm parks, ice cream factory etc.
High season rates are £400 a week until end of August. Low season Nov to Feb is £250. Mid season TBA.
The cottage sleeps 5 in three bedrooms, and also has a sofa bed.
It has open views to the front and a patio side garden.
The village has 4 pubs, a large cafe and a mini supermarket, 2 cash points.
There is an old Mill with a visitor centre.
There is a recreation ground with play equipment and football/basketball goals. The local tennis court can be hired.
