Christmas Ladies Ride - Twas the Ride Before Christmas...
Twas the ride before Christmas, when all through the town
Not a car was driving, none to be found..
The lycra were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that a new Cervelo soon would be there.
The ladies were nestled all snug in their kit,
While visions of Le Tour danced in their heads.
And Rachael in her ‘buff, and Chris in her cap,
Had just set out for a long winter’s ride.
When outside Dave Fergusons there arose such a clatter,
We turned around to see what was the matter.
The sun on the breast of the new-tarmac road
Gave the lure of speed to those who rode.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But lycra clad ladies all in their gear.
With a little blonde lady, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be our Claire
More rapid than eagles her coursers they came,
And she whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!
"Now Di! now Caren! now Paula and Angie!
On, Jacqui! On, Cath! On Sasha and Christine!
To the top of the town! To the top of the Dale!
Now ride away! Ride away! Ride away all!"
As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,
the ladies set off for a short winter’s ride.
So up to the cafe-stop the coursers they flew,
With the sights on a cafe stop with cake to come too!
They sprang to their bikes, while the guys gave a whistle,
And away they all rode like the down of a thistle.
The last thing we shouted as we rode out of sight,
"Happy Christmas to all, and to all a good-ride”.
Please come in Christmas themed attire, an appetite for mince pies and more chatter, natter, pedal pedal. Sunday 14th December 9.30am outside DF's. Route to be posted closer to the time.
Many thanks
Claire
